Synexus has sites in 6 countries which means it has patients from all over the world, across very diverse populations.

The way Synexus works with patients varies by region. What is called ‘The hub model' is predominantly used. However, in order to work better with patients in some countries, they favour the SMO model. Local knowledge and experience enables the model to be tailored to each individual country's needs. In South Africa, for example, investigators visit township clinics to discuss clinical trials with walk-in patients.

Synexus recognises the validity of the 'think local; act global' adage and is well aware of sociocultural differences across the world.

Rather than falling into the generalisation trap Synexus is well aware of the cultural differences which exist and regularly collects data which can help inform strategies to benefit patients locally. Therefore it has developed specific strategies designed to address different beliefs about a disease, the economic barriers which make the cost of transportation, participation and lack of insurance significant in some areas and individual barriers such as lack of time.

Ongoing data collection covers areas such as:

Regulatory environments in each country;
Local healthcare professional attitudes to clinical research;
The local attitude and awareness of the condition;
The general attitude towards clinical research and participation in clinical research;
Response rates to recruitment activities.

Using this information Synexus is able to apply a centralised approach to each campaign, and then tailor the specific tactics to meet local market needs.

Synexus currently has centres in Eastern Europe, South Africa, the UK and India. Its dynamic growth strategy, driven by the demands of clients, will see this list continue to grow.
